One of the things I love about India, is the natural craft and skill that exists.  Even in what seems like the most simplest of things, there is so much skill involved.

It is pineapple season here, and last night as we were walking home, my mother found the beautiful fresh pineapples irresistible.

Whilst the fruit is fabulous, for me the joy is in watching the skill of this man as he peels, carves and slices it for us, all in less than 5 minutes.

True, the crafts are the declining forms nowadays. Right from warp and weft to simple pot making are being killed slowly by indifferent govt. pandering for their private profits.

I was talking about this only last night with friends!! A local fruit seller did this to my pineapple for the first time last week and by the end of it I felt guilty to hand over only 30 rupees to him! Its quite the craft, I tried to do it yesterday at home and failed.

You’re brave to attempt it at home. Inflation really moves quickly as you move south in Mumbai, I believe ours cost Rs50!
